Off to a decent start so far, with a 44-4 record in South Dakota games. AA/AAA 8-0, which about anyone could do, and 36-4 in small-school first round.
Let’s see if I can keep that winning percentage intact:
Dell Rapids over Vermillion: As much as I would love to see the Tanagers avenge another regular season loss (39-12 on Oct. 23), I can’t say that I see that happening. Still, it has been good to see Vermillion have success again.
Other Games: Madison over Chamberlain; West Central over Lennox; Hot Springs over Belle Fourche
Parkston over Canton: A year ago, Canton avenged a regular season loss to Parkston in the Dome. While the C-Hawks gave Parkston its closest game so far this season (10-0), I don’t see Parkston dropping the ball this time around.
St. Thomas More over Bon Homme: My good friend Byron Pudwill (Bon Homme head coach) is probably going to let me hear about this one, but STM doesn’t lose at home often. STM did lose to the Winner team that Bon Homme just beat, but I don’t see the western Cavs dropping this one.
Other Games: Groton Area over Custer; Roncalli over McCook Central-Montrose
Picks (no local teams left): Arlington over Kimball-White Lake; Gregory over Lyman; Garretson over Deuel; Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central over Elkton-Lake Benton
Alcester-Hudson over New Underwood: Hard for me to take most West River teams seriously, and Alcester-Hudson has too many weapons to be beaten by most nine-man squads in the state.
Other Games: Philip over Chester Area; Howard over Warner; Potter County over Wolsey-Wessington
Avon over Faulkton Area: Faulkton has moved up into that second tier of 9-man, but Avon has resided in the top tier for a long time. Even though they took a couple tough losses earlier this year, the Pirates are again for real.
Other Games: Hamlin over Eureka-Bowdle; Canistota over Dell Rapids St. Mary; Harding County over Faith
