Another week, another ranked opponent.
It’s becoming a common theme for the University of South Dakota football team, which hosts No. 22 Northern Arizona today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at the DakotaDome.
“It’s been really tough, but now we’re at home,” said USD head coach Joe Glenn, whose team is 2-1 after a loss to fourth-ranked Montana a week ago. “They have to do what we’ve done. Now we can use it on them.
“The trip is in our favor this time.”
What hasn’t been in USD’s favor is success against ranked opponents in its division.
Northern Arizona (2-1), which beat USD in Flagstaff last year, will mark the sixth consecutive ranked FCS team the Coyotes will have played, dating back to last season — and USD has lost the previous five.
At least this matchup will be contested in the DakotaDome, players said this week.
“It’ll be nice to sleep in our own beds, not have to change our sleeping schedule,” said sophomore defensive tackle Jon Maag.
“It’ll be a lot better for us, mentally and physically.”
