Monday is the day.
That’s the day the USD football team returns to the practice field, when the Coyotes open fall camp in Vermillion.
In all, USD will hold 29 practices before the Aug. 31 season opener against UC Davis at the DakotaDome. Mixed in will be five 2-a-days and two off days.
Typically, the first couple practice sessions are spent acclimating the freshmen — of which USD has a large group — to the mix. The real nuts and bolts of game preparation have usually come in the two weeks before the game.
There are plenty of story lines to watch this fall, as the Coyotes boast some experience in the key positions (offensive and defensive lines) after not having much in the way of experience a year ago.
The P&D will provide updates from fall camp on a handful of occasions in the weeks leading up to the season opener. USD’s media day gathering is Thursday, Aug. 15, so we’ll have full coverage of that as well.
One of my USD goals this fall is to blog on a more regular basis. I’ve not posted entries as much (for reasons that sound more like excuses: I do a lot of posting on Twitter, etc.), but I intend to do more of that in the coming months.
