My SD Semifinal picks

I went 19-5 with my quarterfinal picks. Not bad but I’ve done better. I am at 57-11 overall.

Here we go with the semifinal picks. I’ll have more next week, and will join John Thayer in the 9 am hour on Wednesday to talk about the finals and state volleyball.

Class 11AA
O’Gorman (7-3) at Washington (10-0), 2 p.m.

  • Washington – beat O’Gorman 24-0 on Sept. 8; Only 1 opponent has broken double figures on the Warriors
  • O’Gorman – Seven straight wins since loss to Washington on Sept. 8

S.F. Roosevelt (8-2) at Brandon Valley (10-0), 7 p.m.

  • Brandon Valley – 2-0 vs. Sioux Falls schools this season (OG, L); Looking for first finals appearance since 1998
  • Roosevelt – Only third time away from Howard Wood this season.

Class 11A
Hot Springs (7-3) at Dell Rapids (9-1), 5 p.m.

  • Dell Rapids – Six straight wins after loss to Tri-Valley on Sept. 21. Looking for shot at third straight title.
  • Hot Springs – lost to Chamberlain in opener. Dell Rapids beat Chamberlain last week.

Spearfish (8-3) at Harrisburg (8-2), 6 p.m.

  • Harrisburg – Beat Spearfish 31-7 on Sept. 28.

Class 11B
Flandreau (10-0) at Winner (10-0), 6 p.m.

  • Winner – outscored two playoff opponents 100-6
  • Flandreau – have 5 shutouts this season. Only 2 opponents have scored more than 1 TD (Deuel, Tri-Valley)

Aberdeen Roncalli (10-0) at Tri-Valley (9-1), 5 p.m.

  • Aberdeen Roncalli – had 5 shutouts in regular season. Outscored opponents 99-26 in post-season.

Class 9AA
Howard (8-2) at Clark-Willow Lake (9-1), 6 p.m., Clark

  • Howard – won 5 straight since 28-26 loss to BEE; Upset top-seed Kimball-White Lake in quarterfinals
  • CWL – have won 9 straight since opening loss to Hamlin; edged Tri-State 41-34 in opening round.

Gregory (9-1) at Deubrook Area (10-0), 4 p.m., White

  • Deubrook – 3 shutouts this season, including 55-0 over Ipswich-Edmunds Central in opening round. Beat Potter County in OT 22-20
  • Gregory – Eliminated 2011 champion Bridgewater-Emery-Ethan 36-34 in first round; Have won 5 straight since loss to Kimball-White Lake

Class 9A
Arlington (9-1) at Canistota (10-0), 6 p.m.

  • Canistota – since 2 close wins to open season (Howard 20-16, BEE 16-8), Hawks have outscored opponents 451-65 (56.4-8.1) 2-time defending state champs
  • Arlington – upended Hamlin and Faith after loss to Deubrook in regular season finale

Herried-Selby Area (10-0) at Warner (10-0), 7 p.m.

  • Warner – gave up season-high 18 points in playoff opener (Wolsey-Wessington), had only given up 49 points in 8 regular season games.
  • Herried-Selby – only 4 opponents have broken double figures this season. Beat Corsica-Stickney 40-28

Class 9B
Castlewood (7-3) at Harding County (10-0), 3 p.m. CT

  • Harding County – opened the season with 5 straight shutouts, Blanked both post-season opponents (Jones Co., Faulkton)
  • Castlewood – have won 4 straight by a combined 196-14 since 3 straight losses in middle of season (Deubrook, Elkton-LB, Arlington)

Viborg-Hurley (8-2) at Colome (9-1), 6 p.m.

  • Colome – 9 straight wins since Aug. 31 loss to Gregory. Have shut out 3 opponents in last 5 games
  • V-H – Have scored 122 points in last 2 games since loss to Hanson; Battled back from 12 points down to beat Hitchcock-Tulare
