Dordt Invitational and Frostbite 4 Results

Saturday brought a welcomed sight for numerous area runners; an actual road race! For 12 years now, the Beresford Booster Club has hosted “South Dakota’s Premier Winter Road Race.” It is also just about the only winter road race in SD, but the folks in Beresford have created one of the most unique and well-organized races in the region.

The morning festivities included a 4-mile run, 2-mile run, and a mile run for Beresford Elementary students. I competed in the 4-mile run for the second consecutive year. Last year I managed to finish 5th in 24:27. This year I ended up running almost 40 seconds faster but dropped to 6th place overall in 23:48 – 5:57/mile pace. I did manage to win the 20-29 age group and the small moose statue that goes along with winning an age group (a fun unique part of this race). Matt Genrich of Sioux Falls won the 4-mile race with a time of 21:34.

The 4-mile race had 271 finishers while the 2-mile version saw 134 athletes compete for a record 405 participants. A free chili and soup feed follows the race everyday with local live bluegrass music as entertainment.
