Scouting Eastern Washington

NOTE: Don’t forget to follow Saturday’s USD vs. Eastern Washington 4 p.m. football game over at the Press & Dakotan’s Coyote Gameday page — located here.

Put simply, Saturday’s game is probably the biggest home game for the Coyote football team in 20+ years.

How often are you going to have either the No. 1 team in the country and/or the defending national champions coming to Vermillion? Let alone one in the same, as Eastern Washington is.

To familiarize you with the EWU Eagles, here is a little bit about them:

** Coached by Beau Baldwin, who was previously at Central Washington (which you might remember was part of the old North Central Conference for a few years)

** Yes, they’re the school that has a red football field

** Eagles return 15 starters from last year when they went 13-2 and beat Delaware in the FCS national title game.

** Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was tabbed by one preseason publication as the Preseason FCS Offensive Player of the Year after throwing a school-record 37 touchdowns last fall.

** Wide receivers Brandon Kaufman (returning All-America) and Nicholas Edwards combined for 138 catches, 1,828 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.
