Mo Valley Football Jottings

A few extra notes from Monday’s Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) annual preseason media teleconference.

•• The conference figures to announced a 5-game broadcast package with this week. Commissioner Patty Viverito said, “Most importantly, this arrangement will give our fans everywhere the chance to watch Valley football throughout the season.”

•• Bracket expansion will be among the topics to be discussed with a newly-formed FCS Presidents Leadership Group at their first meeting next week in Indianapolis. Last season, the FCS playoffs were expanded from 16 to 20 teams, an increase that benefited the MVFC — Northern Iowa got the league’s automatic bid, while Western Illinois and North Dakota State got at-large bids.

Viverito said she is hopeful that the playoff format is expanded to include at least 22 teams, but probably 24. A total of 10 conferences have automatic bids, while a 11th (Pioneer League) was denied an auto bid because the field wasn’t large enough to accommodate them.
