WBCA Announces Academic Top 25; MMC, USD, SDSU On List

ATLANTA, Ga. — A number of schools with regional ties were named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Academic Top 25 for the 2009-10 school year.
The University of South Dakota ranked 16th in NCAA Division I. Ryun William’s team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.368.
Great West Conference rival Utah Valley led the nation with a 3.63 GPA, followed closely by former North Central Conference and future Summit League rival South Dakota State (3.622). Creighton was fifth (3.506), Northern Iowa seventh (3.464), North Dakota 10th (3.442) and North Dakota State 12th (3.427).
In the NAIA, Mount Marty ranked 20th. Coach Tom Schlimgen’s team posted a 3.365 cumulative GPA.
Dana College, which closed three weeks ago, led the NAIA with a 3.727 team GPA, followed by Valley City State (3.688). Also on the list were Concordia (6th, 3.532), Northwestern (7th, 3.506), South Dakota Tech (15th, 3.407) and Midland Lutheran (18th, 3.391).
Michigan Tech led NCAA Division II with a 3.732 team GPA, followed by Chadron State (3.641). Wayne State was 18th (3.454), with Winona State 20th (3.446) and Nebraska-Omaha 25th (3.403).
Carnegie Mellon led NCAA Division III with a 3.616 team GPAC. Sheridan College led the junior college/community college division with a 3.575 team GPA.
