After a 19 1/2-hour drive, made longer by having to patch up the team bus after hail damage, the MMC baseball team needed a good start to the NAIA Baseball Tournament, Bracket 4, in Lubbock, Texas.
They got it.
MMC rolled up 10 runs against Texas-Brownsville, a total Trey Krier more than made hold up, in a 10-2 victory over the Scorpions Tuesday at Hays Field.
Krier struck out five and walked none, giving him 80 strikeouts with just six walks on the season. The victory is his 10th, tying a school record.
Jason Schmidt had a great day at the plate, going 4-4 with a grand slam, a home run and a walk. He drove in six. The only thing that went wrong for his day was that he was picked off first base by the pitcher. His triple gave him a record-tying fourth, tying teammate Josh Wenande and five others.
MMC will play top-seeded Lubbock Christian at 6 p.m.
