The talk of the college basketball world will make a stop in Vermillion tonight (Friday).
Cornell, fresh off a 71-66 loss at No. 1 Kansas on Wednesday, will face the University of South Dakota at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the DakotaDome.
The nation got a good look at the Big Red during Wednesday night’s game, which saw Cornell lead for most of the way until Kansas put together a late charge to win. Kansas had the nation’s longest home win streak and it’s not very often that a No. 1 team loses to a non-conference team.
But that’s all in the past now.
Cornell (12-3) boasts one of the most talented groups to ever play in the DakotaDome, without question. The Big Red are led by senior forward Ryan Wittman (19.2 ppg), who is already the school’s all-time leading scorer and is easily one of the best outside shooters in the country. And Cornell also has 7-foot senior center Jeff Foote (13.5 ppg and 8.5 rpg), along with fellow All-Ivy League guard Louis Dale (9.8 ppg and 5.2 apg).
** Here’s the preview from the Ithaca (N.Y.) Journal.
** Before arriving in Vermillion, Cornell made a brief stop in Blair, Neb. — the home of senior forward Pete Reynods. The Big Red practiced in Blair on Thursday.
** A win Friday over USD would be Cornell’s 11th away from home — the most in the country.
** I will have a live game blog right here on this site during Friday night’s contest.
