USD Offensive Coordinator Hired At Hawaii

University of South Dakota football offensive coordinator Gordon “Gordy” Shaw has been hired as the offensive line coach at the University of Hawaii, the school announced Tuesday.

Shaw spent one season as an assistant coach at USD, where he helped guide the Coyotes to the nation’s sixth-best offense. Prior to USD, Shaw spent 14 seasons at the University of Minnesota where he coached both the offensive and defensive lines.

We had an extensive nationwide search and I feel we got one of the best offensive line coaches in the country,” Hawaii head coach Greg McMackin said in a statement. “Gordy fits into our staff, he’s a student of the game and is one of the top offensive line gurus in the country.”

With Shaw’s departure, the Coyotes have had two assistants leave for Division I jobs in the past two weeks. Defensive coordinator Jarod Dodson took a position at the University of Buffalo two weeks ago.

USD finished 6-5 in 2008, its first season at the D-I level.

I’ll look to have more on this later in the week, including Thursday’s USD notebook.
