Amundson Sets MMC Free Throw Record

Mount Marty's Michelle Amundson set the school record for free throw percentage, going 15 for 15 from the line in Wednesday's win over Dordt. She also went over 1,000 career points in the game.

Junior Michelle Amundson improved on the Mount Marty single-game record for free throw percentage in a game when she went 15 for 15 from the line against Dordt Wednesday night.

The old mark was 12-12, done by Amy Brady against Huron in the 1990-91 season, and by Katie Heine against Doane in the 2001-02 season. Amundson’s total also put her one shy of the single-game record for free throws made in a game, set by Ann Devoy in the 1977-78 season against Sioux Empire (16-23).

Amundson, who leads the Lancers at 14.4 points per game, finished with 24 points as the Lancers rallied to a 73-67 victory.

She is currently shooting 81.5 percent from the line (88-105), and has not missed a free throw since going 1-2 against Sioux Falls on Jan. 28, a string of 19 straight made free throws.

Amundson also went over 1,000 points for her career in the contest, and now sits at 1,010 career points. Amber Marsden, who started her career at Benedictine before transfering to MMC, eclipsed that career mark last week.
Wednesday’s victory was the 20th of the season and the 10th in 12 games. MMC, 20-7 and 11-4 in the GPAC, is closing in on a school record for victories in a season (24 in 1985-86).
