This weekend, North Dakota State women’s basketball coach Carolyn DeHoff announced that sophomore Abby Plucker will redshirt this season.
The news wasn’t exactly a surprise, especially after gauging Plucker’s thoughts in Brookings before the Jan. 24 game with South Dakota State.
Plucker, a native of Parker, suffered a shoulder injury diving for a loose ball against Denver on Dec. 15. Prior to going out, she was leading the team in scoring and rebounding.
“Right now, I’m leaning toward having surgery,” she told the Press & Dakotan in Brookings. “It’s a 6-month recovery and I want to be ready for next year. If I came back this year, I’m not sure how much I could help.”
The good news for Plucker was that her injury occurred in the team’s ninth game, the final contest a player can appear in before being granted a medical redshirt from the NCAA.
