I’m up and running from Frost Arena in Brookings for tonight’s North Dakota State vs. South Dakota State women’s basketball game.
Why is the P&D here?
Well, a couple of area players are in attendance. Yankton’s Ketty Cornemann is a starter for the 20th-ranked Jackrabbits, who are 18-2 overall and 7-1 in The Summit League. And Parker native Abby Plucker, although out with a shoulder injury, plays for the Bison.
Just had a nice chat with Abby before the game. She was on the court, shooting a few left-handed jumpers. I’ll have more on her within the next few days. But here’s a teaser: She’s hoping her family can make the trek to Sioux Falls for the Summit League basketball tournament in March.
Not sure if I’ll have some sort of game update, but you can always watch the game on TV through KSFY of Sioux Falls. Or you can listen to the radio broadcast from Yankton’s own WNAX on 570 AM.
Also, I haven’t been to Frost Arena since early 2003, but I forgot how cool this place is for basketball. My P&D colleague Justin Rust (who is here representing The Volante) got here about 2.5 hours early, so we had plenty of time to check out the building. The folks here have done a great job upgrading an already sweet basketball arena. Unless I just forgot, there’s a new overhead video screen (in HD) and a pair of horizontal Daktronics video boards on the far ends of the court.
Should be a good time tonight.
