A Couple Weekend Thoughts
Yankton’s own Colton Iverson will be playing in the Howard Pulley Pro-City League again this summer, teamed up with junior point guard Al Nolen on the A&A Millwork squad. Iverson will not be teammates with Ralph Sampson III this summer, as he was last year, according to a blog by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
There were a number of interesting things to come out of the trio of archery competitions that concluded on Sunday.
The local wildlife — i.e. gnats — posed some interesting challenges for the archers. Some of the archers found an inventive way of dealing with the annoying pests, taking vanilla-scented car air fresheners and stuffing them in or tying them to their hats.
Saturday night’s NFAA Center dedication was quite interesting, beginning with a cake made to look like a tree stump, down to the moss growing on one side and the mushrooms growing near the roots.
The group was also entertained by Native American dancers, sporting everything from traditional to more contemporary outfits and explaining the general purpose of several types of dance. The hoop dance was especially interesting, as I had never seen one performed to contemporary music, a selection by the group Brule.

It is always interesting to have people from other cultures in our little part of the world. Hopefully we as a community made a good impression, and that we gained from the experience as well.
On a national note, the Lakers won it all Sunday. Kobe was a deserving MVP. Orlando, of course, paints a different picture.
Back to Yankton … The Press & Dakotan is continuing its work on a redesign and, in my dual roles as sports editor and assistant managing editor, I want to know what you want to see in your newspaper. Feel free to send your comments at sports@yankton.net
