** Glenn Beck with an ultimate FAIL sports analogy: “Will our government take strike three looking? Or, will they wake up and save the day with a heroic three pointer on a penalty shot?” Wait, what? Hey Glenn, you can leave your man card at the door.

** Having trouble beating the Orlando Magic? Get the ball to LeBron and watch him do work. As a Cavs fan, I let loose a huuuuuuuuge sigh of relief last night.

** Did an umpire once call pitches for Randy Johnson? According to a former catcher, it happened.

** Some lucky person in Winner, S.D. (a town of about 3,000 people) won $232 million. Or, if they’re really feeling generous, just over $77,000 for every person in town.

** Here’s a stat for you: 41 percent of Major League Soccer (MLS) games this season have ended in ties. Last year was 27 percent. No wonder the sport hasn’t caught on ’round here.

** The classic Seinfeld line “Yada, yada, yada” was voted the No. 1 funniest TV phrase.

** Freddie Prinze Jr. is joining the cast of “24.” Hold up, what was that?

OK, yeah, I know this is a David Cook song. But honestly, I think it’s a good tune. The lyrics ring pretty familiar too. Vagueness rules.

Great West Football Tidbits

Meant to post this Monday, but didn’t get a chance. Speaking of which, how was your Memorial Day holiday? Hopefully the rain didn’t cause too many headaches (other than those at the State B High School Baseball Tournament).

Anyway, here are some assorted football notes from teams across the Great West Conference.

** Former USD star running back Amos Allen signed a free agent contract with the British Columbia (BC) Lions of the CFL. Interestingly, Allen could fill the void in the Lions’ backfield left by the departure of former Coyote Stefan Logan, who signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

** Athletic directors at the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State discussed “briefly” the topic of scheduling each other. Gene Taylor (NDSU) said the earliest the Bison would schedule UND in football would be 2012.

** UC Davis will be playing at the University of California in 2010. The game is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 4, 2010.

** Cade Cooper, a senior transfer from the University of Oregon, was named Southern Utah’s starting quarterback after his performance in the annual Red-White scrimmage.

** Notre Dame omits losing seasons from the Charlie Weis biography in the new football media guide. The reasoning is hilarious.

** Saturday Night Live is actually considering a full-length MacGruber film. Seriously.

** Memo to Glenn Beck: Don’t mess with the ladies of The View.

** Aziz Ansari from the NBC show Parks & Recreation is hilarious. Here’s a recent appearance from Jimmy Kimmel Live.

USD Football Adds Another Big Ten Game

Monday, the University of South Dakota football team announced that it will play a road game at Northwestern (of the Big Ten Conference) in 2012.

It will mark the third Big Ten game for the Coyotes in a three-year span, including Minnesota (2010) and Wisconsin (2011).

Here’s a snippet of the story you can find in Tuesday’s Press & Dakotan.

VERMILLION — The University of South Dakota football team’s tour around the Big Ten Conference has added another gig.

USD announced Monday that it will play a 2012 road game at Northwestern University, giving the Coyotes a third Big Ten contest in a span of three seasons.

Northwestern joins Minnesota (2010) and Wisconsin (2011) on USD’s future schedules.

The game in Evanston, Ill., will also mark a homecoming for USD head coach Ed Meierkort, a native of nearby Chicago.

“As a Chicago kid, it’ll hold a special place in my heart,” the sixth-year head coach said Monday. “Any time you can associate yourself with a place as prestigious as Northwestern, it’s definitely a win-win.”
