SDSU Draws 7th Seed In NCAA Women’s Tourney

The South Dakota State women now know their fate, and it’s not as good as many had projected them.

After a week of being projected as a sixth seed, the Jackrabbit women drew a seventh seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, and will face 10th-seeded Texas Christian Sunday night in Lubbock, Texas.

Personally, I would have thought that a team ranked 14th in the coaches poll and 16th in the Associated Press poll might deserve a little more respect. But, as they say, respect is earned, and what a way to earn it but by beating both TCU and second-seeded Baylor in their home state and earning a trip to Raleigh, N.C. for the Sweet 16.

  1. ESPN.com’s bracket projections even had the Jacks as low as a 5 seed, as late as even this afternoon. Then all of a sudden, SDSU drops to a 7. How does that work? Maybe the whole new-to-the-scene factor played a role here.

  2. An addendum to my earlier post. ESPN.com has a breakdown of the women’s bracket, and two of the four analysts called SDSU its “Team Better Than Its Seed.”
