USD Men Ink 4 Recruits
The USD men’s basketball program signed four recruits to its first-ever Division I class.
Mitchell Bouie (Chicago, Ill.), Conrad Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill.), Dustin Tetzlaff (Watertown, S.D.), and Cliff Warner (Altoona, Iowa), signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.
“It’s a nice group to come in,” USD head coach Dave Boots said. “They all play different positions. It’s a very athletic group. They should have a chance to play early in their careers. All-around, academically, it’s a solid group.”
Quick thoughts: The Coyote coaching staff made its summer recruiting trip to Chicago a successful one, as Bouie (a 6-foot-3 guard) and Krutwig (a 6-foot-6 forward) both hail from the Windy City area. And the coaches also nabbed an in-state recruit in Tetzlaff, a 6-foot-7 forward. And the latest addition is Warner (a 6-foot-guard) who is reportedly a great passing point guard, which could give USD a dangerous 1-2 punch at the guard spot in coming years — already with freshman Louie Krogman.
USD Women Sign Five
First-year USD women’s basketball coach Ryun Williams has signed five recruits to his first Division I class.
The players are: Emily Guenther (Altoona, Iowa), Pamela January (Richfield, Minn.), McKayla Knudson (South Sioux City), Samantha Mehr (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Jamie Young (Great Falls, Mon.).
“We’re really excited about the first ever Division I recruiting class at The University of South Dakota,” Williams said. “This is a very talented, dedicated, group of student-athletes. We feel we addressed a lot of our needs with this class. All of these athletes have been extremely well coached in high school and in the AAU circuit and will bring a winning mentality to Coyote Basketball. In addition, they are all great students with great priorities. We look forward to them leading Coyote Basketball into its Division I future.”

There’s been no official release from the USD men’s basketball team, but they’ll have two signings for sure. James and I will have more on recruits throughout the day.
Signing Day Update
We will have more throughout the day, but here is the first information we have on the NCAA early signing period.
When South Dakota State women’s basketball coach Aaron Johnston was at the Yankton Quarterback Club, he alluded to signing five athletes, four from South Dakota. Not only did he sign four South Dakotans, but four of the top AA players in the state: Ashley Eide, 5-9, guard, Sioux Falls; Tara Heiser, 5-9, guard, Watertown; Katie Lingle, 6-2, center, Pierre; and Stephanie Paluch, 5-9, guard, Pierre.
The other signee is Leah Dietel, a 6-1 forward from Jordan, Minn. She is a three-time all-stater with 1,879 career points and 1,051 career rebounds, and averaged 18.7 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game in leading Jordan to a second place finish at state. Jordan has gone 98-15 with her in the lineup.
USD has also announced its women’s basketball recruiting class, its first under head coach Ryun Williams and also five individuals. The group includes Emily Guenther of Altoona, Iowa; Pamela January of Richfield, Minn.; McKayla Knudson of South Sioux City, Neb.; Samantha Mehr of Apple Valley, Minn., and Jamie Young of Great Falls, Mont. Young is a transfer from Clarendon College (Texas) who averaged 9.0 points and 10.2 rebounds a game last season.
We’ll have more as they are announced.
