Don’t Play Politics With Halloween!

Caught this story from the Detroit News via a Canadian news site I subscribe to.

I don’t care what side of the political fence you side in, this is wrong to punish kids who will never get the chance to vote for either of these candidates, who have no opinion of their own and are only giving a name they might have heard their parents talk about. This is just kids looking for candy on Halloween, and this neighbor, whom I’m sure they trust, turns them away because they gave the wrong answer on a 50-50 question.

If you want to only give out candy to kids you know, that’s fine. But don’t pull a “trick” like this on unsuspecting kids.

Tidbits From A Busy Day For Coyotes

It was sure a jam-packed day for University of South Dakota athletics, as the cross country teams took part in the Great West Conference Championships, the football team was at North Greenville (S.C.) and the volleyball team hosted North Dakota.

First, let’s talk football.

After 2 weeks off, the USD football team blanked Division II North Greenville 63-0 in Tigerville, S.C. Talk about a complete domination.

Thanks to 4 total touchdowns from junior quarterback Noah Shepard, the Coyotes out-gained the Crusaders 521-101 in total offense.

Some notes from an easy win for the Coyotes (4-4):

** USD held North Greenville to just 33 yards rushing on 28 carries.

** Senior wide receiver Dan Skelly caught a touchdown pass for the first time in 5 games.

** There were just 1,458 people in attendance at Younts Stadium. Ouch.

** It was the second shutout for USD, which has now out-scored opponents 219-10 in the team’s four wins.

In the inaugural Great West Conference cross country meet, Yankton native Ramsey Fitzsimmons earned an individual title as the USD women finished second, four close points (42-46) behind conference champions Utah Valley.

Fitzsimmons finished the 6,000-meter race in 22:47.4 for first place, while teammate Kelsey Maloney was second at 23:02.4. On the men’s side, the Coyote men finished fourth, led by Wakonda native Rob Gregoire’s seventh-place finish (26:31.5).

Overall, a pretty dang good season for first-year coach Dan Fitzsimmons.

The USD women’s volleyball team defeated North Dakota 3-1 on Saturday, for the second win against the Sioux already this season — with one matchup remaining.

USD (20-3) reached the 20-win mark for the second-straight season and also finished with a perfect 9-0 record at home this season.
